It takes a lot of balls to be a freshmen from K-State and make a prediction that you’re going to sweep your rival Kansas, especially when you haven’t beaten them on your OWN home floor since 1984 (literally!). But that’s what Michael Beasley did. Homey said that his Kansas State squad would sweep KU this year and you know what, they’re half way there.
Credit where credit is due because Mike scored a game high 25 en route to a relatively smooth 84-75 win over the #2 ranked Kansas Jayhawks. Now let me tell you and I know this because I watch College Basketball, Kansas is DEAD NICE this year. I mean, they’re stacked with athletes and ballers from the rooter to the tooter in that line-up and really should not lose to K-State, period. Yes I know that K State has Bill Walker and Mike Beasley, but Kansas has Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers, Sherron Collins, Darrell Arthur and Sasha Kaun, just to name a few!! I don’t know man, Bill Self is a good coach and he gets guys to come to his school, but at some point homey is going to have to be held to a higher standard.
Let’s be clear, homey’s teams have choked like a mother, catching TWO first round losses and losing to random Big 12 teams like it aint no thang. I know this was their first loss and all, but you guys got to shake that “waiting for an upset” reputation and it aint gonna get done by letting a freshmen call you out and then embarrass you in a rivalry game.

Mama’s birthday
Last week I was home for Mama’s 85th birthday which I was able to celebrate w/ Lyn and all of my cousins. I was my Mama’s photographer for the day so I made sure to take her picture every chance I could get. She loves taking pictures, probably more so than the average Filipino (and that’s saying a lot).
I got to see my godson too, I knew I had to give him some money or something but Lyn thought it would be a better idea to get him a toy, after all, I hated money when I was a kid, you couldn’t play with it and kids don’t know the concept of money – except that you’re supposed to save it, boring. So I got him a lightsaber, duuh. I’ll probably do that for my future kid, want to make sure the force runs in the family =)
Mama’s bday was a success, she told me she wasn’t looking forward to it coz she feels way too old but im sure all of the cards and gifts she got made her change her mind. Oh, and playing wii w/ everyone was awesome too. WarioWare was dope.
Thanksgiving week
I rarely see my friends from High School when I’m home. Usually I’d give Karen a call and she’d be cool and set something up w/ a few of us to eat or go out or something. But there are those super rare times I’ll see someone out of the blue while in town. Usually I see my friend Hemali in the mall or see someone from High School I knew of but never really talked to (that’s not saying much coz I didn’t really make too many friends in high school). Anyways, saw my friend Lyn w/ her bf and family. Good to know she’s doing well, she’ll be my doctor someday. (and Karen will be my lawyer, Jodie my optometrist, Julie will do my taxes.. I think im set)
What else did I do this week? Hmm, play video games. Haha. I’ve gotten pretty hardcore into gaming recently, playing games from every console and pc. You could say this could help me get that job I want in the games industry, just a little. I think on Saturday all I did was rotate from my TV to my PC to my DS. That rotation worked pretty well – I think I’ll do that when im back home for Christmas.
Day After Thanksgiving - nothing much this year for me. Last year Lyn and I raped the Puma outlet. This time, not so much. I kinda just rode passenger seat w/ my sis the whole day while she got stuff like AppleCare, Boots, USB drive, and DVDs. Oh yea, i saw lots of fake boobs at the mall. Pretty cool, its funny how they just flaunt them w/ their small shirts and stuff. Only thing I got was the first volume of Y the last man, Goonies DVD, and South Park season 10. I swear I wasn’t going to buy anything this time (gotta save for that house!) but the DVDs were crazy cheap, 5$ for Goonies, and South Park was only 15, and it has the WOW ep so that was a good buy. “Y The Last Man” is another story – I’ve gotten into graphic novels these past few months and this was a good recommendation from a coworker. I’ll talk about it more when the rest of the series gets shipped =)

What do you remember about singing for Simon, Randy, Paula and Kara?
We were in the hotel waiting in line and [a contestant named] Akeelah went in a couple people before me and she left pissed off and I hoped I wouldn’t leave like that. I wouldn’t be pissed. I’d be sad. You know, it sucks. They have us in line seeing people before us come out with the Hollywood ticket or not, and it’s just pretty sad. So I went in and I was so scared and the judges knew that. They told me.
Were you scared because you had been watching the judges for so many seasons?
That too, yes. I’d heard so much about Kara as well. This all-time writer is a musician, she sings and she’s going to be the judge. But you know, she’s amazing. I was hoping to make it to Hollywood Week. That was my major goal, at least Hollywood Week. I sang “At Last” and I know I didn’t do so well. I thought, “That’s it. I’m going home.” I remember Randy said, “You’ve got something.” And Paula said, “You’re very distinct. There’s something different about you.” Kara as well. They all saw something in me, potential or something, because I know I did not do so great and I was so scared. After they said, “You’re going through,” I was so happy and, course, Simon said, “Hold on. That was just a 7 out of 10.” I thought, “Gee, thanks for bursting my bubble, Simon.” But I got the golden ticket to Hollywood! I came out and my two aunts, my dad, my brother, my sister, my cousin, my niece and nephew were out there. They were crying. My mom was crying, obviously. I remember Ryan asked her, “Do you need an ambulance or something, ma’am? Are you OK?”
Adam Lambert shines brightest on ‘American Idol’ tour by Andy Downing
Adam Lambert might have finished as runner-up on “American Idol” this past season, but the Idols Live tour, which took place Wednesday at a packed Allstate Arena, belonged almost solely to the 27-year-old California native.
Lambert entered the arena to the strains of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” drawing some of the night’s loudest cheers as he slithered around his microphone stand like a particularly seductive cobra. Decked out in fingerless black gloves, a knee-length, faux-lizard jacket (complete with shoulder spikes) and tight leather pants, Lambert looked like a cross between David Bowie in “Labyrinth” and a grungy extra from John Carpenter’s “Escape From New York.” Despite his obvious celebrity, the singer appeared most comfortable portraying the outsider; songs touched on venturing alone into the cosmos (“Starlight,” “Life On Mars”) and feeling out of place right here on Earth (an eerie “Mad World”).
While Lambert’s emergence is a clear boon to the Idol brand—the series hasn’t developed a true breakout star since Carrie Underwood—it made for an anticlimactic close to the three-hour event. Sure, Idol champ Kris Allen brought an All-American charm to light-soul takes on Kanye West (“Heartless”) and the Killers (“All These Things That I’ve Done”), but he lacked Lambert’s dynamic stage presence and stylistic range.
The rest of the evening was, to put it politely, a mixed bag… Allison Iraheta prowled the stage like a feral cat and howled like a banshee on a trio of mostly-excellent rock songs.

Gokey said Lambert has kept his feet grounded despite the hysteria surrounding him.
“We joke about it all the time,” Gokey said. “We have so much fun with it. He’s really good about it, too. We wouldn’t do it if it offended him. We respect each other. We like to tease each other. But we’re quick to support each other.” He continued: “He handles fame well. I think he’s the same person he was when he came on the show. I definitely do.”
American Idol Tour: Part VI – Kris Allen By Colleen Joyce
PopStar: We are all very excited about your upcoming album; can you tell us about it? Kris Allen: It’s going well. We are writing with some really cool people from LA and New York. We are getting some good songs in and I think it is going really well.
PopStar: Are you writing any songs yourself? Kris Allen: Yeah, absolutely. Doing a lot of co-writing stuff as well.
PopStar: When can we expect a release of the album? Kris Allen: We are trying to do sometime in the middle of November, close to Thanksgiving.
PopStar: When you are not on stage performing or driving from one city to the next, what do you like to do in your off time? Kris Allen: There is not a whole lot. I have had two days off throughout the whole tour. One day was when we were in Florida so I went to the beach and did nothing all day. The other day I was in Atlanta and I went and watched The Hangover by myself in the movie theater.
PopStar: You and Idol star Adam Lambert did fun backstage interviews of each other that ended up on YouTube. You guys talked a lot about each other’s music style; on tour what is your favorite Adam Lambert performance? Kris Allen: On the tour, the one that I get to hear the most is the Bowie one because I go on after him. So I hear that one a lot; I think it is really good and the crowd gets along with it. He is in his element when he is doing that Bowie stuff. It is very cool.

I recently wrote a great review of the Japanese restaurant Globefish at Kensington. Just so you know I don’t do good reviews only, and to warn you from making the same mistake as my friend and I did, here is my review of Calgary’s Open Sesame based on the experience my friend and I had last night.

Open Sesame – When I can cook better than the chef
The place looks hip and buzzing with customers. Our server was really cute and charming. Too bad the food sucks based on how the three dishes we ordered off the menu tasted like. :(
IMHO, most restaurants in Calgary China town offers much better prepared food than Open Sesame. The crispy stir fry noodles were not crispy on the edges (actually quite oily and soggy). The flat wide rice noodles looked like they were chopped/cooked into hundreds of pieces (they should be whole and looked like a flat white ribbon). And the salt and pepper calamari was probably one of the worst prepared S&P calamari I had tasted in some time, where some of the batter in a few of the pieces weren’t even cooked through.
Due to strange goings on last night Mike in Portland wasn’t able to moderate…..the gremlins seem to have gone and so he’s back to host the blank page this weekend. Keep the conversations going and suggest any stories you would like us to talk about on the radio next week. Over to you…..

Note: Despite conflicting reports that you may read or hear – I am told she is not in labor. She is in the time frame where technically she could go into labor but is not in labor at this time (Sunday 12.24 EST) . So – unless something happens he’ll be fine to race. They are just being prepared. The Hendrick folks told me today that she was not in labor – and asked if I’d clarify. So-that’s the accurate story as of this hour.

Week 6 ends by bringing us the first BCS ranking – big deal! But there was something more pathetic than the BCS – and that’s Michigan for playing Delaware State. I frown hosting any nonD1 team anytime, but doing so in midseason is quite sorry. Sorry Wolverine fans, you may have to run the table to earn any respect here.
On a positive note, thought I’d toss out something to ponder. How many BCS teams have won three road games this year against BCS opponents? Sorry, neutral-field games don’t count.
- Certainly not Texas or Penn State as with their one road game.
- Not Florida since they have only played two away games.
- Georgia, Ga. Tech, Miami (FL), and Va. Tech have played interesting schedules, but they haven’t done it.
- Houston has captured the hearts of many, but they have only two.
- Keep thinking as the answer is given below the rating
Week 6 put the big kibosh onto Ohio State, Auburn, and Va. Tech – well, at least for now. Texas and Oklahoma State made pleas to get into these rankings. Florida survived a scare, while Boise won over a notable opponent.
